ATI Catalyst Control Center with .NET v2

Hello: I also have the same problem and I do not have Zone Alarm so that
eliminates that. Even using Microsofts Hive dump the .Net Broadcast panel
still comes up 1-3 times during every shut down. My ATI`s catalyast v.5.10.
was installed before I did the .NET v.2 update, it was only after this that
the problem arose. My plans are to try and remove the ATI`s catalyast
completely as per

install the new ATI catalyast 5.11 and hope that it works.

involving shut down problems suggest terminating za manually before shutdown.
I would rather resolve the issue so logoff/shutdown proceeds normally. Last
resort would be to revert to ATI's Catalyst Control Panel which does not use
.NET.

As I expect to see increased usage of .NET applications I think it would be
worthwhile to resolve this problem so other users will have a more seamless
experience.

I uninstalled then reinstalled .NET v2 and the prob peristed. After yet
another restart, I checked the event logs, then went to add/remove programs
in control panel. Selecting .NET v2 I chose the repair option and this
appears to have resolved the problem at least for now.

From your post it would appear that this is related to .NET v2 being used
with the Catalyst Control Panel which was developed using the .NET 1.1
version.

I work at the IT help desk for a community college. I vaguely remember
coming across a reference to problems with .NET v2 and other applications. I
will investigate further as to the software in question and problems
encountered then will post that info here. My next shift is on Wed Nov 30.

I would think that by now most programmers would realize that good computing
practices prescribe not using an admin account for daily tasks. The admin
account should only be used for what it was intended for- computer
administration. Even Symantec's NIS 2005 has problems in this area. It won't
auto update unless the user is logged on with an admin account. It was for
that reason, and too many resources being used, that I switched to Zone
Alarm.

Unfortunately ZA's ISS 2006 appears to have been released prematurely. The
so called Smart Advisor doesn't even recognize the print spooler. Every time
I print a document it pops up an alert. The only options are to allow all
dangerous behavior or disable program control.

I believe that the current state of application development is more
representative of a business model than a technology model. It would be nice
if greed could take a backseat to function.

When I first installed the updated v.2 everything was ok but shortly after
during start-up my monitor screens would do multipile shifts, after this
started the .NET Broadcast window would appear at shutdown. I also removed
and reinstalled the v.2 also without correction and I also used the repair
option twice. In a few days the screens started the shifting again. So as I
stated in my first correspondence I removed ATI completely as described
earlier rebooted then I repaired .Net v.2 because as it states on all ATI`s
downloads " You must have MICROSOFT .NET FRAMEWORK INSTALLED PROIR to
DOWNLOADING and INSTALLING the Catalyst Control Center" Then I rebooted and
continued to re-install all ATI`s software previously removed, it works just
fine for now, I will also keep you posted to see what happens in a few days.
I did not up date to the 5.11 catalyst yet just to see if I can resolve this
matter first. Cheers!

I'm using an older Radeon 7000.
On an XP Pro machine several Catalyst Control Center Notification dialogs
load and often will not go away. I drag them and hide then behind an open
instance of WinAmp I keep on Monitor 2.

I setup another instance of XP Pro on a new disk last night and installed
..NET 1.1 and then installed the latest 5.11 release of Catalyst as well as
the multiple desktop manager. I then installed .NET 2.0. Each time the
system is rebooted an instance of Windows Explorer will open logged to
c:\Program Files\ATI\Support. What a PITA.

checked and set permissions for my user account. Then I checked settings in
gpedit relating to ASP.NET etc. I also set services to their default
settings. I still kept getting the end program dialog. The event log entries

While the GUI for the catalyst control center is nice I've come to the
conclusion that it's just not worth the system resources it takes up. I use
process explorer from sysinternals in place of task mgr and it showed several
entries and a lot of both physical memory and virtual being used to run
CLI.exe. In addition the internal network traffic and port listening states
concern me as well.

I have spent more time trying to get the cat control ctr running right than
I've spent using it. I just set the AA and AF then leave it. So I uninstalled
the control center and replaced it with the control panel. No problems, fewer
resources, faster boot and shutdown. Hydravision still works. Until ATI
implements a version that actually works as well as being efficient, I'm
following the KISS principle and sticking with what uses the least resources
and functions well.

It has always seemed to me that anything that tries to do everything rarely
does one thing well.

This morning I booted up only to find an error on boot ATI2evxx.exe
-application error, "The instruction at "0x0042816b" referenced memory at
"0x00000000" The memory could not be "read" Then during logon to my account
the Microsoft Error Report pop-up opened "ATI EXTERNAL EVENT UTILITY.EXE
MODULE" , I am unsure of the finer techinal details that you have pointed out
but I also have another sys running XP Home all updated and with an ATI 7500
an older version of the catalyst and it is content with with the.NET v.2 .
The CLI.exe has come up previously requesting firewall access and it was
granted. There is one other thing I noticed if I log on and do not go on line
there is no .NET Broadcast error during shutdown, but when I logon to the
internet and then log off and proceed to shut down, the .Net box certainly
reappears. Maybe something ending a program incorrectly during internet
logoff as I said I am very unsure. Your time spent is grately appreicated!

Hey I got it, cleared all events and rebooted, remained offline and noticed
that the services self terminated if not on line and there is no dialogue
box. Then rebooted and proceeded online did some searching within Microsoft
and within ATI knowlodge bases it is not a problem listed , so I figured that
it has to be just a few or it would be a very popular seek to cure. I then
logged off and sure enough the dialog box blinked then reappeared and tried
to end itself and then reappeared not responding, end task now. I checked the
events on reboot and as Hoku stated "services" so I cleared all again and
because of the shifting of the screen during boot I went to add/remove
programs /ATI ccc selected repair only to have it hang, after 3 tries the 4th
repair completed it`s task without error. Then I proceeded to the windows
services panel (start/run/type srevices.msc/ok) scrolled to REMOTE ACCESS
MANAGER, dbl clk, selected automatic and apply. Then scrolled to TELEPHONY,
dbl clk, selected automatic and apply, ok and closed returning to the desktop
and rebooted , I have logged on and off/online and off several times with
absoutly no shifting of screen and NO EVENTLOG ERRORS. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE

I've spent using it. I just set the AA and AF then leave it. So I uninstalled
the control center and replaced it with the control panel. No problems, fewer
resources, faster boot and shutdown. Hydravision still works. Until ATI
implements a version that actually works as well as being efficient, I'm
following the KISS principle and sticking with what uses the least resources
and functions well.

It has always seemed to me that anything that tries to do everything rarely
does one thing well.

On an XP Pro machine several Catalyst Control Center Notification dialogs
load and often will not go away. I drag them and hide then behind an open
instance of WinAmp I keep on Monitor 2.

I setup another instance of XP Pro on a new disk last night and installed
..NET 1.1 and then installed the latest 5.11 release of Catalyst as well as
the multiple desktop manager. I then installed .NET 2.0. Each time the
system is rebooted an instance of Windows Explorer will open logged to
c:\Program Files\ATI\Support. What a PITA.

I,m practically the same .I have ATI control Centre with Hydravision and running single monitor with dual screens one being digital.When logging off or shutting
down I get the same problem ,NET-Broadcast..ect the only difference being I have no control and have to wait until it self cancels.Any (not too technical) ideas to get rid of it.

I too am having the problem with this NET.Broadcast thingy, but when the
'End Now' box comes up when I log off,my computer does not hang up but
goes through its motions and then my computer shuts down. I thought it
may be spyware so I scanned my computer with Spybot and Ad-aware and it
seemed to get rid of it, but it still keeps coming back. I dont think
its an Internet problem because it sometimes happens when I havent been
on the internet though while writing this it could be when the updates
occur for Windows or AVG anti-virus. I have also just found out that a
friend of mine who has a ATI card but no internet, does not have this
problem. So maybe it is the ATI Control Center via the internet. Fixing
the problem is the problem

The Ati CATALYST Control Center Installattion go in Internet - I have a
Gateway PC.
I have a "All in Wonder 9200" card & WindowsXP SP2. This is the first
time to work with Ati CATALYST Control Center & latest driver for my
card - Catalyst6.5. The Ati CATALYST Control Center simply don't work &
"When I log off/shut down the computer a dialog box appears as follows:
End program-.NET-BroadcastEventWindow .1.0.5...". I have the .NET
Framework 2.0 - the Paint.Net job fine.

I have a few PCs. The Ati CATALYST Control Center don't work if a few
"unsecured" services is turned off. In my PC (see up) I'm don't have &
MS Java Machine (unsecured), Sun Java only. The Depends Tool
(www.sysinternals.com) see a problem with ATI CCC & MS Java...

The Ati CATALYST Control Center is a big hole in security?!
