Serial Port with Windows XP

I had written a VB6 application on a Windows98 machine. When I moved it to my WindowsXP machine, it appears to have a problem.

It seems if I have the serial device (scale terminal) connected to the PC when it boots up, XP declares that the port is in use and my program cannot get access to the port.

If I just disconnect the scale then start the PC the program works correctly. Any ideas how to get XP to release the port from it's clutches?

Thanks

Hi Ron,

my very first question is?? is you application make use of any of your serial port? well.. i had a problem when developing some application that make use or parallel port.. after some researching i came to know that both XP n Win2K sends some signal to these port at boot time.. so.. the best option is to tell ur application to check all ports and close them if they appear to be open.. good luck my fren..
