Folder Option is not showing

Chittaranjan
Hi All,

I am using WindowsXP operating system. I was able to hide the files and to see them : I was going to the "Tool" menu then "Folder Option" and then "View" tab and "show the hidden files and folders" check box ...

But from some days I am not able to get that "Folder Option" in the menu from the "Tool" menu. So I am not able to understand that why this is not showing. I sthere any .dll file is corrupted or what?????

So please help me I am waiting for the reply. What will be the solution for that.

Thanks,
Chittaranjan :)

Are you on a domain or are you a standalone home user? Is your account administrative or limited. Which Service pack is installed?

Lets install Service Pack 2

Windows Xp SP 2

And tell me more about the folder, are the icons locked on it? Does this happen every time you restart or right after you close the window and open it again?

Ok

Go to Start--Run--type Regedit

from the edit tab click find

type Folder options

in the Reg_dword value of folder option change it to 1

this will enable the folder options

Here is the solution:

Then:
->User Configuration ->Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Windows Explorer-> Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu.
Right click:
-> Properties -> Disable ->Apply

Also caused by virus, pls scan virus first then, apply abow solution.
Good luck,

Thanks Tuan,

It was a good idea I think but still my problem is not solved. I can't able to understand why this problem is happening like I have followed all the solutions given by others and you. Like I had ran the anti virus to check if there is any virus but not any virus even I had tried the another way you had suggested me. So what can I do now please guide me. But after all you had given great ideas. Thanks again for the ideas. So please help me a bit more to solve this one.

No I had not installed service pack2 becase I had some problems and even I thought of to try the solutions posted by others if that will work. Because I think this I will not able to solve so I need to format and reconfigure the operating system. Thanks to you all for your all great help.

Hey.
I think your problem is by virus, event you already scaned the virus from your PC.
Try this:

Run-Regedit
flow to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Policy
and HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Policy

Find into this, if there's any key like that : "disable cmd" or "disable Folder Options" with value=1
Set the value to "0"
try to open Folder Options in Control Panel

Hi,

I had same problem and can't see folders option on my computer. I scanned my pc and did not find any virus but I found interesting details on sophos which I tried on my pc to remove this worm.

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32brontoka.html

After this I went to gpedit.msc -> user configration -> Administrative templates ->Windows components -> Windows Explorer and disabled "REmove the folder options menu from tools options"

After that I can see folder options in control panel and Windows explorer as well.

Thanks all for your help.
