Feedback from Recruiters

Job listing posted by: msquared (Admin) on March 15th, 2007 10:09 PM
Hi everyone,

This forum is a temporary measure until we can put a more bespoke solution in place for Job adverts.

It would help if companies and individuals posting jobs could give feedback on how they found using this forum. What kind of response did they get?

Any suggestions regarding the design of a more permanent forum are welcome.

You can post your comments in this thread or PM me directly if you wish.

Re: Feedback from Recruiters
It might be an idea to have a section where those looking for work could post either a summary of skills or a complete resume. I suppose there is an issue in somehow maintaining confidentiality or opening oneself to spam attacks…though this hasn’t been the case with me (yet?). In my job posting (Mar. 8) I included my email address, with no detrimental effects. I didn’t get a response either though, but I’ve only posted the one job.
I can appreciate that you are in the early stages of mapping out the site and what you want to accomplish. You don’t want it to become simply a job/resume site…or do you? I would think there is certainly financial potential to having an exclusively Developer-oriented Workopolis type clone with the bonus of a discussion forum…hmmm….
From a Technical or Development perspective, I don’t know how much is involved in putting together a search feature with a decent level of usability and customization features. It would work for both sides though…someone could browse jobs by location and skills required, or search resumes similarly.
I get the sense that this is quite a broad range of members in the group, from about-to-be-graduates to seasoned professionals…all could benefit from a robust job posting section. Of course, Recruiters (as myself) want a resume or “work wanted” section.

As for my experience with responses, I haven’t had any. This is just a matter of numbers, and if I were to post 20 jobs, I’m sure I would have some success. Growth of member numbers would take care of that, and multiple job postings would likely help with membership growth....word will get around.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right in that we are still a young site and always trying to improve the facilities available on the site. It would be great long term to have both a development disucussion and jobs forum site working alongside without either taking away from the other.

I like your suggestion of Resume Posting. I suppose the removal of Personal details would satisfy privacy requirement. It's a nice idea and one I will definitely pass on.

Thanks again.

Re: Feedback from Recruiters
I suppose for those so inclined, they could include a resume under their "additional information"...the trick would be to make the members section keyword/geographically searchable. We could then send a PM to the member to gauge interest in a job.
It could then be called the "Member/Resume" section on the tab, or just add a new tab for resumes only.
The job posting side needs to be keyword/geographically searchable/sortable also. Hopefully those posting would keep it to Development-only jobs, so someone could simply enter "PHP, Toronto" and see what comes back...exactly as I would do in the resume section.

Don't forget me when you are rich & famous!!

Good suggestion. So essentially tying the resume to a profile but making it searchable by skillbase and location.

Re: Feedback from Recruiters
I would suggest to expand the forum with the category 'VOLUNTEERS'. This would then be open to non-profit organisations to look for people who would like to do some community service.

Of course the same rules would apply as to the other threads, except for the payment/salary.

I have already allowed one or two threads of this type to pass. I will amend the posting guidelines accordingly.
