java won't install

i've tried everything i could find to install java. i no longer even have java on my computer. i used a program called windows install clean up to fix my problem. i also opened the run process, then put in regedit and deleted all traces of "javasoft." nonetheless java will not install and the installer won't even show up when i open the downloaded exe anymore. help?

Go here and download JDK version 6, update 7 (a bit down the page).
I hope you haven't completely ruined your registry. The download and installation
doesn't take any trickery dickery; just let your computer do what it has to do.

I don't know; please elaborate on "didn't work at all". Didn't it download? Didn't
it install? Didn't it run afterwards?

it downloaded, but the installer still would not pop up after clicked. if i try to install something else liek say mozilla firefox, the installer still prompts me to begin the installation. unlike for java when i download any of the java installations... the installation box never comes up when i click the downloaded java installer.

If you click on the link that starts downloading: jdk-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe
do you select 'save' or 'run'? Selecting the second option should start it all.
Check if you really are downloading the file I mentioned.

jdk update 7 right? second option am i right? yes i have downloaded it and ran it, but the installer doesn't follow through and it pops up for a brief second then disappears. that's my problem.

Do you have write/execute permissions? Can you run the same thing as an
'Administrator' or 'root'?

yes i do have administrator and this is an administrator account i am using. all other installers work that is why i am not sure why java does not.
