Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Systems Engineer to join a development team responsible for design, development and support of Fixed Income Trading Systems. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while actively participating in a dynamic, global team.
Fixed Income Development Team designs, develops and supports technology solutions for trading various financial instruments: US Government, Corporate and Foreign Sovereignty Bonds, Agency Issued and Mortgage Backed Securities and more.
This position is well-suited for a person who wishes to be involved with many different aspects of Platform Engineering which includes RedHat Linux Engineering, Storage Engineering, and advanced scripting for all of the above.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
3rd Level Production and Lab Support of worldwide Linux/Solaris environments
Develop automated (scripted) installation kits for OS and Application layer products
Design/Engineer complex Platform solutions (e.g. Clusters, Blade Configuration, Systems Infrastructure)
Write thorough technical documentation for consumption by the QA and Operations teams
Troubleshoot systems issues and coordinate resolutions in a proactive manner
Coordinate design efforts with outside vendors
Skills & Abilities (required technical /functional skills):
Ability to engineer maximum availability systems for a production environment
Experience with Real-Time Linux and profiling trading applications for maximum performance
5+ years UNIX server management with RedHat Enterprise Linux
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, SNMP, Samba
Web server (Apache) and servlet container (TomCat) configuration and support
ActiveMQ configuration and support
RedHat-Linux storage configuration skills (Partition disks, RAID Configuration)
Advanced scripting skills (PERL and BASH); all Engineering work is expected to be highly scripted and fully automated
Work independently, be willing to learn new technical skills and actively participate in a dynamic, team environment
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to write thorough systems documentation for a non-technical audience
Comfortable with being hands on with hardware
Strong documentation skills (using MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio
Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, both within IT and Business Units
Works well in a deadline oriented environment
Knowledge/Requirements:
Minimum of five years Linux Administration experience.
Five or more years of experience within IT organization of a large financial company.
Understands Fixed Income Trading and business motivation for various application features
Expert knowledge of Linux Systems administration
Bachelor degree
